I saw your recent post from 12/28 where you describe using Windows to copy and rename a payroll file. This can greatly simplify year-end processing for W2's, etc because it eliminates the need for backup and restore processes. Unfortunately, I did not see this post before beginning 2011 payrolls.
We, of course, backed up the companies after the final 2010 payrolls. Would this method work if I rename the zip file and the underlying dxi file? Is it necessary to create the new company in order to restore after doing so - or does creating the alternate dxi file take care of that?
My alternative would be to rename the 2011 payroll file, restore the 2010 payroll file to the original name, then rename it. How would you advise us to proceed with this?
