I saw your recent post from 12/28 where you describe using Windows to copy and rename a payroll file. This can greatly simplify year-end processing for W2's, etc because it eliminates the need for backup and restore processes. Unfortunately, I did not see this post before beginning 2011 payrolls.

We, of course, backed up the companies after the final 2010 payrolls. Would this method work if I rename the zip file and the underlying dxi file? Is it necessary to create the new company in order to restore after doing so - or does creating the alternate dxi file take care of that?

My alternative would be to rename the 2011 payroll file, restore the 2010 payroll file to the original name, then rename it. How would you advise us to proceed with this?

Thanks for your help...

Yes you could actually extract each end of year ZIP and renamed the company ".dxi" files to add the year and then place them all in the PayWindow Data Files folder.

Thanks, Paul.

With all of the furor this year regarding tax tables and FICA rate changes, how would I insure that the proper tax tables are used with the 2010 company file vs the 2011 company file?

If you install 2010, it will install and only use the 2010 tax files, same goes for any year's program as the tax tables are keyed to the yearly program.

I take that to mean that if I am using the 2010 files for misc reporting or W2 processing that we must restore the 2010 version of PayWindows? Please clarify for us... Thanks

The W2 Forms are not affected by the tax tables as the only item used is the FICA wage limit. I printed all of our W2's using 2011.
