Just installed latest update, after not updating since initial 2018 release. (Basically, if it's not broken, I don't mess with it during tax season unless I absolutely have to... like now for the new tax tables)

So now there's code in there to trap the whole 'data file residing in the Program Files directory thing'. I know it's not supposed to be there any more, but it was working, so I left it alone. That's obviously no longer an option. So the message states "Please move it to the My Documents\PayWindow Data Files\ folder." I just need to confirm what the "it" is. I'm guessing all the .dxi files? I have 2 licenses and the program at the second location accesses the data via a drive share over a VPN. All computers point to the same data path on the E: drive... locally, it's a windows mapped share... remotely, it's a windows mapped share across the VPN.

My guess is you've got a FAQ about this somewhere, so feel free to point me there and I'll do my own reading.

Thanks.

You must still be using Windows XP as Microsoft changed the rules after XP that all data files must be stored in the Documents Folder and the Program Files folder is just used for installed executable programs.

The simple fi is to move all of your PayWindow files into the Documents\PayWindow Data Files\ folder using the file explorer, have two Windows open and drag the files from one to the other. 'm assuming that you know how o do that as long as you've been a customer of ours.

Been using Win7 Ultimate since Win7 came out. And I've known about the data issue, but it worked without any problems, so I left it alone. This is the first time the program has actually prohibited me from open a client file because of the location of the data file. As a point of information, the ProgramFiles folder in question is on the E: drive as opposed to the C: drive, so maybe that's why it continued to work before.

So just to be clear, so I don't break anything in the middle of tax season... I can just move all the .dxi files with Explorer. Those are the ONLY files that need to be moved? And they either go under Public or the folder with my login name, depending on whether PayWin was installed for all or one user respectively?

Yes just the DXI files are all that you need to move as those are the company databases.

Not sure what I was thinking... but that will break my setup.
I don't have a share to my C:, on purpose. And I'd really rather not make one to the C: drive. Does PayWin care where I have the DXI's as long as they're not in a folder named ProgramFiles? Like can I make a folder E:\PayWindow\Data, as long as it's not read-only?

Yes you can use a drive like E:\Documents\PayWindow Data Files\ Or you can share a single Folder on your C: drive too, not sharing the while drive.
