Can't delete old employees

I am a seasonal business starting anothe year and wanted to remove a few more employees that will not return . There are no 2017 payrolls yet. when I try to delete it goes to not responding on both my computers. could my database be corrupted ? is it because I already ran it once?

I am using 15.0.6, and I did watch that video at least 3 times and went right along with it. I did delete some old employees on the older 2016 version with no issues but now that I am updated to 2017 (no payrolls run yet) and I want to delete some more who decided not to return this season it keeps going to Not Responding and I have to close it. (Running windows 7 professional 64 bit)

The current release was designed to easily delete ONLY Unemployed people. This screenshot shows the exact settings below. From the pick list of what to do you select "Just delete unemployed employees and all of their transactions." Uncheck and that you want to keep in that list and type in YES in all CAPS as seen and click Delete.
