I changed one employee from $480. per week to $500. per week and the state tax went from $15. to $30. I do deduct an extra $10. per week towards it but that hasn't changed. It was the same last year. Can this be correct?

You need to provide a lot lore information. I'd need all of the settings in the employee setup as well as what state you are in to be able to calculate the taxes here to compare.

Go in your Employee settings and give me what your settings for that employee is.

Settings:
Married (Fed)
Married (State)
Pay Rate:12.50
Additional withholdings $10.00
Pay period 52
State paid in ME
the rest are all 0's

The 2017 Maine taxes did go up.

With your Additional $10 state tax, for the $480 I get $29.37 without the additional $10 it would be $19.37. I'm not sure where you came up with $15 though unless that was last year.

And then for the $500 I get $30.53 and without the additional $10 it is $20.53.
