I have purchased and unlocked the 2017 program but I still can not make the wages appear in Box 1 on the W2. I do not take out federal or state taxes; however, I still need it to populate Box 1. I deleted having them exempt from federal and state which populated the state wages Box 16 but not Box 1. Please advise. Thank you.

It's not printing the wages as you had that employee marked as exempt from FIT and changing it back in the employee settings will not fix that as the flag is saved in the payroll transactions saved during the year.

Box one is for wages subject to federal taxes and you had the employee marked as exempt.

By the way, that also effects the wages reported during the year on the 941 Form as well, see this FAQ:

So how do I fix it? I also paid a bonus to a person who normally has fed taxes taken out and I hit fed exempt in the details of the transaction because they did not want fed taxes to be taken out of just the bonus. Is that also going to cause a problem, and if so what is the best way to fix that? Is there an easy way to not take out federal taxes even though they are subject to the tax?

I can fix it for you by editing the raw data in the database to remove those flags from the transactions that are stored. Going forward, do not mark anyone exempt from FIT unless they are actually exempt such as a Pastor of a church.

Make a backup and send it to me listing the name(s) of the employees that I will need to edit and I will return a backup for you to restore. Send it to support@zpay.com

If you want to reduce the amount of taxes on an employee, have them fill out a W4 form showing a high number of dependents like 10 or whatever to reduce the taxable income. They must declare this in order for you to reduce or eliminate the taxes unless you want some big penalties from the IRS. You must protect yourself if you do not withhold what the IRS says you need to withhold.
