Once again, when I updated the program this year, I lost all my custom created local tax tables. I can't help feeling like there's got to be some way to keep the program updated, while not having to remake all my local tax tables, and a couple state tables, each time. Am I missing a way to back up just the custom tables? Or a way to prevent them from being deleted (overwritten?) when I update? I can't tell you how many paychecks I've sent out wrong (with no local tax withheld), because I forgot I had to got redo tables each time I upgrade.
Any suggestions?

We never touch the Local Tax tables. However, there are two locations that they may be installed. On is in the Public Documents Folder and the other is in the User Documents Folder. What you did was to change the option in the setup program and now are pointing at the "wrong" tax files folder which does not hold your custom local tax records.
See this page in the help file which shows the setup selection:
http://zpay.com/pw-online-help/Local.htm
Download and reinstall PayWindow and select the opposite of what you have now in the setup.

You gotta stop doing that! I already have 2 ex-wives who tell me I don't know everything I think I do. ;)
So here's another one... Every time tax tables update, it seems like the "Is there SDI" box gets rechecked on the PA tax table. There is no SDI in PA. Is this one my fault too? ;)

In addition to the Employer SDI tax, you have an employee tax too and since the SUTA in or program only cover's the employer side, we used the SDO tax to calculate and deduct the tax from the employees.
PA State Unemployment Insurance (SUI):
Employer Rates:
Wage base is $9,500 for 2016, $9,750 in 2017, $10,000 in 2018 and after per S.B. 1310 signed in June, 2012.
Rates range from 2.801% to 10.8937% for 2016
New employers use 3.6785% for 2016 except construction employers who pay 10.1947% for 2016.
Employee Rate:
.07% for 2016 is withheld from gross wages. This tax is to be remitted to the Department with the employer's quarterly unemployment tax.
There are many details involved in calculating an employer rate. The numbers shown here are meant to be an overview. For complete details on Unemployment insurance in Pennsylvania, click here.

Hmm, I set up a separate deduction for the .07% for the employee portion of the unemployment. I specifically did NOT use the SDI option, since it spits out on the W2 as SDI, which is of course something PA does not have. Maybe I have a unique perspective since I do payroll and income tax preparation. I know if one of my income tax clients brought in a W2 showing a tax withheld that I know their state doesn't have, I'd probably direct them to talk to someone at the payroll department where they work to get that corrected.
But at least now I understand why the SDI box is getting rechecked every time there's a tax table upgrade.
