NY Voluntary Disability payroll item

Hello, my question is not PayWindow-specific, but the only info on this I have been able to Google up is from Mr Mayer in your FAQ forum.

Where do i get more info on this payroll item for "New York voluntary disability"? Is there a state web site I can go to, or plan documents I should be demanding from my employer. I am told "voluntary" means "mandatory". ADP does the payroll for the company.

My issue is this; I live, work, and will pay estimated income tax in NC. My employer is based in NY. My employer says this is mandatory even in my situation, not just for their NY employees. Would I ever be able to collect if their was an SDI event?

For more information, search for "WCL §§209, 210" and the Form referenced "NYS-45" with Google. It is up to the employer if they elect to collect or not from what we know about it.
