Of what value is being able to export the 1099 Misc year end report to a file?

Can I open and edit the .asc file and re-import it for printing?

I am trying to figure out how to change the output of the 1099 misc year-end report. I need the amount paid to the contractor to go into box 1 instead of box 7.

Could be possible to change the employee type from 'N' - non employee to something else to get the payment to go to box1?

No the export file is only for importing into other software. And changing from an N would then produce W2 Forms.

The only way to edit the 1099 Forms is to export use 1099Express as PayWindow will create a database for that program and then open 1099Express where you can edit the forms, and then print them on plain paper and submit them on-line.
