I believe that form 940 has an error. It is entering a value of $7000.00 on line 4 ("payments exempt from FUTA tax") that I don't think belongs there. I have 12 California employees and 1 Nevada employee. None of them have any special situations as listed underneath line 4. My every two week payroll correctly calculates the FUTA, but the 940 line 7 is $7000.00 too low and thus line 8 is $42.00 too low compared to my bi-weekly payroll totals (my contribution rate of .006 times $7000.00 = $42.00).

Question TWO
As a related issue I don't know why Schedule A of form 940 is not calculated. You have the information on each employees earnings and know the state they reside in. Is there any other information that you should require on the employees to enable you to calculate the Schedule A? If so you could require it when I enter a new employee.

We would have to see your database to see what settings you might have that show the exempt 7,000 as the 940 code has not changed in some years now and not any other single user has ever reported such a problem.

Please see the instructions at this link to send us your database:

On the Schedule A, since it is a fill in the blanks for and the states change every year and that form is so simple to complete we only provide the IRS blank form for you.

I received your database and loaded it and printed the 940 form to verify what you said. Line 4 had a zero and all the data was correct as expected. Of course I set the date to 12/31/2014 before printing the form. I have no idea how you could have got anything different from what I did. I emailed the form back to you.
