Is it possible to import old transactions into paywindow without overwriting everything?

We have been using Paywindow since 2003.

But for some reason, I only have transactions dating back to 2009. Maybe it was due to a computer crash or some other problem.

I am sure I have backups of our paywindow company file for years before 2009 SOMEWHERE on our computer.

so is it possible to somehow get JUST the transaction and employee data from those files (if I can find them)?

And what would the extension for those file types be?

I would sure hate to have to go back and enter them all in by hand. And I would sure hate to be audited without having them in the system.

Thanks in advance.

No you cannot import into PayWindow. Something even more important, if you've not been printing out the two most important reports each payday, it can make the difference between an audit that can take a few days to one that can be a month long as the IRS does not want to look at a computer screen, they want a paper trail.

This link to a page in the help file points out the two reports I'm referring to:

http://zpay.com/pw-online-help/TheTwoMostImportantReports.htm

You can open old backups in current versions of PayWindow but because most reports are calculated on the fly, without old tax tables, accurate reports cannot be printed. Also Forms like the 941 change each year and old years could not be printed.

So just so I understand...

Suppose I found a backup from 2008.

If I imported the file, could I overwrite the CURRENT TAX TABLES with our tax rates from 2008, and then print out the two most important paper reports that way?

(Or would a backup from 2008 automatically revert the tax tables to OUR 2008 tax rate?)

Thanks in advance.

Just so I understand correctly:

If I did find a backup from 2008, could I open it up and override the tax rates with our 2008 tax rates so that I could print out the two most important paper forms?

Or would opening up the 2008 backup automatically revert the tax tables to what our tax rate was back in 2008.

Thanks in advance for explaining this to me.

Actually, if you have your old backup files that you need, I have download files for PayWindow going back to 2005 up though the current 2013. I can give you those links and you can install the boldest you need, use the file for that year to print what you need and then move to each next year.

If you want to do that, email me and I will give you the download links.

Thanks for the offer.

But just so I understand, when you say you have "download files for PayWindow going back to 2005 up though the current 2013" are these tax tables that I will have to install? Or are these the yearly reports?

I know I have physical copies of the yearly reports.

thanks in advance for clearing this up. I may indeed end up contacting you for those files.

Oh, and one more thing.

what is the three letter extension for backup files (the three letters after the . in the file name)???

No you need to install the version of PayWindow you need to print the reports for which would have the tax tables for that specific year.

We backup to compressed ZIP files and the backup files use the company name, and the backup date and .zip as the file extension. And example is like our company backup file is "ZPAY Payroll Systems, Inc 201306-20-13.zip" from yesterday's backup. Each year I start with a copy of my company database and ass the year to it as you see and have all old years in my data folder and can easily identify them.

Thanks again for the explanation.

so just so I understand what is involved, to get paper reports from 2008, for example, I would:

1) Backup my current company file.

2) Uninstall the current (2013) installation of Paywindow

3) Download and install the Paywindow 2008 PROGRAM file

4) Find my 2008 Paywindow backup file from Q4 2008, and restore it

Am I missing something?

will I have to override any of the various tax tables? for instance, we are in California. Will I have to look up our California tax rates from 2008 and plug them in?

Thanks again.

Yes you've got it in order, You just do not need to uninstall PayWindow, installing the various year versions overwrites the currently installed program. And yes, very important to be sure to have that current backup to go back to when done. Any tax settings you had in the company override in the old company backups will still be in place.
