When workmans comp audit time rolls around for a client, the audit period is never Jan 1 to Dec 31. It's always some odd date, to another odd date. It would make it MUCH easier to handle these kinds of events, if there was a report we could run that let me choose a FROM date and a TO date, and just showed the totals for each employee for that requested period. If such a report already exists, I've overlooked it somehow. I realize that if one keeps a separate client file for each year, as I do, that these reports wouldn't be able to span a calendar year, but it would still yield FAR less adding & subtracting that how we have to do it now... especially for clients with lots of employees.

Okay okay... so I'm not very smart. ;) There is such a report in the custom reports section.
But in my defense, you've put so much effort into discouraging us from using the custom reports for anything calculation critical, that I don't usually consider it as an option. Feel free to publicly humiliate me. ;)

In the Report Center under Miscellaneous Reports, it is the History Report. Of course this will only work if you have the historical data as if you ran the end of year tool, that data would be in a backup file only in that case. Also the Cost Accounting Report can select by dates and give you total hours and gross pay.

Actually, the History report wouldn't work. From what I see, it just shows all the pays for each employee for the chosen period. It doesn't appear to show totals. But the custom works. Thanks.

Print Preview and scroll to the bottom of the report for the totals.

Simple reports can be done in the Custom Reports that do not need calculations such as our standard reports where there are wage limits and such. So yes, you can pull up a list and totals for say the gross wages for a selected date range.
