Hi Paul,
For the last couple weeks, my check numbering has quit on me. I have to manually put the first # in and it shows it has advanced correctly, but then goes back to a previous check #. I know it is probably a simple solution that I am not seeing.
All updates are current.
Thanks for your help.
Phyllis

If the check number is not being retrieved, you may have a serious problem as it is stored in the company database. In PayWindow, click on Payroll and then select Transactions. Sort them by Date Paid and see if your current transactions are in the list. Avast Anti-virus software blocks saving data in the access databases. See this FAQ:

That is the only thing that I can think of that would cause something like that.

I just learned something. When you print checks, the new starting Check Number is saved when you "Close" the Print Dialog after printing checks. If you close PayWindow leaving that Print Dialog open, the new starting check number is not saved. So make sure that you close that Dialog to save the starting check number.
We are looking into saving that after the last check is printed and not assume that the user will always close the Print Dialog for PayWindow 2013.

I looked at the pay history and the check numbers are correct. After today's payroll, I went back to look at the next check number, and it went back again. I looked at the check # it keeps going back to and it is the week ending 10/20/12.
(I used close to end the session)
We are using Trend virus protection.

We released PayWindow 2013 on December 1st and it saves the check number at the end of printing the checks and does not require you to close the "Report Center" in order to store the "Next Check Number".
See if that works for you and let me know.

Sorry, this didn't work either. It
went back to the October check #.

This has me worried Phyllis as if the check number is not being saved, that means your payroll transactions are not being saved either. Some Anti-virus software programs make a "virtual" copy of the database when you open PayWindow and allow you to pay but when closing, they delete the "virtual" database. If this is the problem, you do not have your payroll history in order to print the W2 Forms and such. It appears it started in October.
We first discovered this problem back in August when we posted this FAQ and sent out an announcement in our email Newsletter:
http://zpay.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?3430-Avast-Antivirus-Blocks-PayWindow-Database-Access
Can you open the Transactions list (Click Payroll and then select Transaction...) and see the payroll transactions from October up through December in the list?
Also since you said you tried the last suggestion, when PayWindow is up and running, what does it read as up in the top left corner of the program starting with "PayWindow Payroll..."?

Hi Paul,
The transaction list is all there. nothing is missing. I looked at the checks numbers and they were all correct. I looked at the Employers Payroll Total Report, and everything looks good there. Top left reads PayWindow Payroll System 2013 11.0.1
Just refuses to hold the check numbers.

Something is unique to your setup there as with over 7,000 users, you seem to be the only one with the problem. Make a backup of your database so I can test it on our computers here. See this FAQ for instructions:
