Just ran a 940, although total of payments is right its putting them in line #4 as exempt and I owe nothing which unless theres something Ive missed isnt right. Ive made sure the date is set right. Ive started to do it manually on a form and Iam down to line 7a which comes out $14000 which jives with all the other years. But Iam on lines 7b and 7d and Iam stuck. As if I put the figures in like the it asks its going to figure out in the thousands not the $112.00 Ive been paying for years. And of course the 940 instr arent really helpfull after 7a. Any help would be thanked
Wayne
ps I ran emp totals and its never showed anything as futa tax owed in there

It sounds like you did not get the update with the 2011 940 Form which was released in the middle of December as I just tested with three companies and noting on line 4 unless it is wages marked as exempt from FUTA. Can you confirm you have the current form? If not make sure you download the current release.

I had 10.0.5 but I just updated to 10.0.8 and says Iam current on everything. Wages are not marked exempt, overide for futa is unchecked, exempt for futa in employees is set to NO and still showing the hole amount exempt on line 4. Worked last year, weird It is the current form on the screen as I just downed the form from the IRS.

Send me your database so I can look into the raw data and see if I can spot the problem. No one else has had this problem so there has to be a reason. See this FAQ for instructions:

And reference this message thread in the email so I know what to do.

I just did it long hand as it was faster that way.

Also the program doesnt print your trade name out on W2`s and W`3`s, no x`s on the kind of payer and kind of employer on the W`3s and for W2`s on laser 2-up the top adjust of a -5 or +5 produce the same results which it prints higher then 0. The 2nd top margin on the laser 2 -up seemed to work as when put at 505 it lifted the print but didnt try 495. It all depends on how the programmer interputs a + either its going to raise the paper or raise the print which will give you 2 different outputs Ive seen it done both ways!
Thanks

The Trade name does not go on the W2 or W3 Form, just the name associated with the FEIN. See the instructions for adjusting the margins on the W2 Forms. Clicking Item 3 in the top screen shot will take you to the specifics, small number will not be seen by the eye, you need to start with a larger number like 20 and adjust from there as shown in this link:
