I am needing to do my first payroll for 2012 this week but have not yet wrapped up the W-2s for 2011 yet. I am assuming I can go ahead and do a 2012 payroll then back up 2012 and restore 2011 to complete my W-2's. I would then also perform a year end close to purge any unwanted employee files? Does this all sound correct? Thank you!

Do this, copy and rename your company file in the PayWindow Data Files to have 2011 in part of the filename like seen in this FAQ:
http://zpay.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?3016-How-to-Copy-and-Rename-a-Company-Database
The you can run the end of year tool on the file that you left with the original name and go about 2012 stuff. When ready to print the W2 Forms, Click File and Open Company and open the new copy that displays the 2011. And follow the instructions in this page of the help file:
http://zpay.com/pw-online-help/printw2.htm?mw=MjMw&st=MQ==&sct=Njk2&ms=AAA=
After done, click File and Open Company and open the normal file and continue on with this year. Pay close attention to the instructions on the FICA wage limit.
