I am brand new with PayWindows and am trying to backup for the first time. I go to File, Backup Company. I select my C drive, which is my hard drive, and Backup. The message I get is "could not save zip file". What am I doing wrong? Also, I have two companies using PayWindows. I am signed into one company when I backup. Do I need to backup each company separately? Thanks.

Backing up to the C: Drive is like tossing something you want keep in the garbage. The reason for backups is in case a hard drive goes bad and you cannot access your data any longer. You want to use a removable drive so that cannot happen. We use USB memory sticks, about $4 each and backup after each payroll is completed and store the memory stick in the file folder where we store the payroll reports. That way we always have a separate backup device for each company we do payroll for.
Microsoft security and many anti-virus tools prohibit writing to the root of the C Drive which is most likely why it was blocked.
Like I described above in the first paragraph, to backup, it is the company that is loaded in PayWindow at the time of backing up. So the best practice is after printing checks and reports to backup immediately.

I just needed to backup on our hard drive so I could then backup on a CD. We keep all our backups on CDs. I did finally determine how to backup to my desktop and this will work fine. I guess I was chosing a destination that was blocked like you said. My problem is solved and question answered. Thank you.
