I am trying to generate 941 liability report for January of 2010. The preview keeps generating 941 for January 2009. I have gone into the date change menu and tried various date change options. All of the other reports show todays date. I have come across this before after updating the software from one year to the next, but do not seem to be able to generate a 941 report for the first quarter of this year. Any thoughts that may help me on my way? Thanks.

If you read our announcements we post each year with the new release as well as the letter we send out with the CD you'd know the answer to the question. The gist of the message about the 941 is:

"941 Forms. The IRS does not release each year's 941 until the second or third month of the year. This is to prevent employers from using the wrong form for reporting the 4th quarter which was a major problem in past years. So be sure that you keep your program updated by using the Updater in PayWindow through the year. (Click Help, Updates and Check for Updates.)"

There is no 2010 941 form and it will be added to PayWindow when the IRS releases it as they do each March since the 941 form is a Quarterly Report, it is not needed in the first or second month of the year. You may be a semi-weekly payee, but still the report is only used at the *end* of the quarter.

If you were using it to see what your taxes are, the correct report to use for your tax liabilities is the Employer Totals report under the Period reports.
