View Full Version : Updates are painful

I have set up PayWindow for multi-user access. Both Tax Tables and Data Files are on my Server.

This is what happens when I update PayWindow:

After the update is processed and PayWindow opens...
Error: "Error Reading Tax Tables - Are the tax tables (*.dat) in the same folder as PayWindow?"
The Path is: [OK] [Copy to Clipboard]

Clicked [OK]
The "Select a company to open" field now reads "/init" - but this is easy to fix (but it shouldn't have been changed).
PayWindow Tax Table Directory is now blank - it should not have been changed.
PayWindow (Default) Data Directory is unchanged.

Clicked [Next]
Error: "File does not exist. Please check Filename" [OK] [Copy to Clipboard]
Clicked [OK]

Click on "Tools > Data and Tax Table Location"
Message: "This action will close all open Windows. Do you want to continue?"
Click [Yes]

PayWindow opens, but I have no way of pointing to the tax table location on the server.

Click on "Tools> Data and Tax Table Location."
This produces no effect whatsoever, except that the main window looses focus.

Close and re-open PayWindow. Tax Table Maintenance window opens over main window.
Choose Setup Tax Tables, Click [Next]
Choose Option 3 Click [Next]
Window: "The Selected Path is:" opens, I fill in the UNC path to the Tax Files (But I have no idea if THESE files were updated.)
Click [Next] [Next]
Error: "An error occurred in the application."
Click [save bug report] Click [close application]
It was "EInOutError - Unable to create directory."

Open PayWindow again. All file locations are now correct. I can open the tax tables under the Tools menu, but I don't know how to tell if they were updated. The newest file, 1.dxi, is dated 1/15/2010.

What am I doing wrong?

Louis.

Because allowing network users to install the tax tables in any locations, it caused a tech support nightmare for our majority of users, the single computer users. As such we now back to installing the tax tables in the My Documents/PayWindow Tax Files/ folder.

You can still use a common folder to place your data files but please install PayWindow on each computer with the tax tables on the same computer. You may need to search the computer to locate the paywin1.ini file and make sure the info under MultiUser looks like this:

[MultiUser]
TaxShareType=0
TaxShareTypeLast=0

I changed my setup to single user/single computer and updated the INI file.
I ran PayWindow and changed the location of my Tax Table to be under My Documents.
I ran UPDATE and it said I was up to date, even though I did not have the tax tables in My Documents.
I closed PayWindow and ran the Tax Table Downloader in the program folder.
It wanted to install the Tax Tables in the Program folder!
I changed that to the folder under My Documents, specifically: D:\Louis\My Documents\PayWindow Tax Files.
Error: "You have PayWindow: it is necessary to install version 8.0.5 or newer." I have version 8.0.10.
After clearing this by clicking [OK] then [Cancel] I found the downloader window behind them.
I clicked [RUN] [Next] [Accept] [Next] typed password [Next] changed destination to folder under My Documents with the same results.

I started PayWindow and it offered to install the Tax Tables (I thought I had already done that with the downloader).
The Tax Tables appear to be installed correctly now.

Is this the way it is supposed to work?

Louis.

Yes that is the way it is supposed to work. The Tax Table downloader installs the tax table archive in the program folder. When PayWindow is launched, it detects that file and installs the tax tables to the proper location.

In PayWindow to verify, click Tools and State Tax Tables, the most recent state updated is show at:

http://zpay.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?11

Compare that date to the date on the state that is referenced in the most recent tax table update message.
