I'm upgrading to a new pc running vista and install paywindow on it. I had problems during the initial install, so i tried to reinstall the reisntall works find until it tries to install the tax table. During the installation I get a tax table path not found (not sure of exact text) the installation extis If I open paywindow it attempts to setup the tax table and I get an exception EinOutError. exception number 1 "Unable to create directory". I get this error whether I run as administrator or not. If I continue the applictaion I noticed the path to the tax table is blank. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling I get the same issue. I searched the registry and I could not find an entry for the tax table path so it is either missing entirely or the path is stored elsewhere

Thanks

It's a Vista security issue. You must run the installer as an Administrator. Download the setup file from our website and save it to your desktop. Then Right click on the Icon and select Run as Administrator from the pop up menu. It will start PayWindow after it installs, you click OK to install the tax tables and it will close.

It will be fine the next time you start it.

I have the same problem, but was able to install the tax tables earlier using the process outlined above. However, when I try to update the program with the latest update, I have to follow that process again, i.e. download installation files, run as administrator, etc., instead of being able to run the updater from within PayWindow. Will this be the standard from now on? Or am I doing something wrong from inside the program when I try to update?

If your security is set where this is happening, yes you will need to download and launch as an administrator. When PayWindow launches the setup package, it passes on the present user privileges and the only way to force admin is like you did following the instructions.

So I got it to work up until it went to install the tax tables, but then it asked for the password for the installation (weird), and then it wouldn't take the password I got with the disc for 2010. Help?

All passwords are case sensitive. Happy is different from HaPPy and so on.

If you installed the latest PayWindow, it has the current tax tables in included and does not require a password.

I have downloaded the program from the web site and tried to install it as instructed above. The error window continues to pop up as the program goes to install the tax tables. Cannot use Send Bug Report report won't upload as an attachment copy follows

The error shows us:

exception message : Unable to create directory.

Which is a security violation indicator. The user account you are using does not have the Administrator privileges needed to create directories in the Documents folder.

If you've Right Clicked on the Setup Icon and selected Run ad Administrator as shown here, something it very strange as it shoiuld allow you unless you User Account does not have the ability tyo run as an Administrator:

I've double checked the user settings. The user is set as an administrator, and I right click on the installation file and/or the executable and click to run as an administrator. (Next to the user name in the debug report it lists <admin> - I assume that means the user is running and/or is set as an administrator). If I forget to do that, PayWindow asks to run the program as administrator - which is a very helpful feature. I have, within the same user, created the folder for the tax files, following the path listed on the final Tax Table Maintenance Window - C:\...\PayWindow Tax Files\, which would indicate to me that the user is set to create directories. After creating that directory, I've tried to set up the tax tables, but get the same error message. I've gone back and deleted that directory, tried again to set up the tax tables, and get the same error message. I tried again this morning after getting your reply, and still the same error message. I just tried again to install the files and this window popped up:

Error Reading Tax Tables
Are the tax tables (*.dat) in the same folder as PayWindow?
The Path is:

As an alternate way to try to get payroll run, I skipped the tax table installation, then went to pay an employee. After selecting the employee to pay, the pay window pops up, and the program asks for a password. When I enter the payroll Tax Table Update Password I received with the installation CD exactly as it is printed, nothing happens.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!!!

Somehow you've completely hosed the system as you should never have even seen the tax table maintenance tools. That is only for network administrators to use.

I' hope you are on a high speed Internet connection as I will need to set up a GoToMeeting with you on the Internet to fix the problem.

See the Instructions here to follow when we start the meeting:

http://zpay.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2621

Then email support@zpay.com referencing this message thread and then check your email every few minutes for the link to the meeting and we will fix the problems for you.
