I had an employee change status from married to single and his fed tax went up $52. on a weekly pay.
Does this seem correct? state stayed the same (IL)

Oh yes, single employees pay much higher taxes that married employees. That's why I personally have claimed single with zero exemptions to insure that I pay more than I need to for years.
You can always work out the match with Publication 15 using the Exact Calculation method to see PayWindow comes out to the penny.
