I need to produce “Nominee†1099-MISC’s for tax years 2004, 2005 and 2006. Do I have to go through the entire process of setting up a company, create and pay employees in order to produce and print 1099-MISC and 1096 forms?

Yes you would need to setup a company and enter the payees info but then "pay" the the annual amount for each payee.
Working from memory though, the 1099-MISC form changed in the past years but I can't recall when it was. So if you have blank forms from those years, I'd compare them with the formatting in PayWindow before wasting any time and forms.
Print on plain paper and hold it up to a window with the actual form to see where the data prints.

Paul,
Thanks. Any chance of enhancing your “W-2 Edit Tool†to handle creating and printing 1099’s whereas I would enter the data into a form then press print to produce the 1099? I believe this would be a valuable enhancement to your tool. The ability to create and print W-2’s, corrected W-2’s and 1099-MISC outside PayWindow could be valuable. Thanks again.

There is a program that does just that for $39 for doing W2 and 1099 forms outside of PayWindow:
