Please explain why it is necessary to run the end of year tool. It seems to me that it may be benificial to have all transactions and past and present employees information available. At least in my small company where in the past 5 years I have only had about 15 employees. Usually 4 or 5 current. Just recently I needed to look up information from an employee that was terminated over a year ago. If I run the end of year tool, wouldn't it be harder to look up old info.
Also I have never run it in the 5 years I have been using PayWindow. What problems have I created?

The reason is to keep the database in a manageable size and to remove employees that have left your company. It allows a whole year or more to fit on the backup drive and you are not cluttered with the old employees that left years ago in your database.

If you have been making backups like we remind you every payday, you can always restore an old backup to look at data again and when done simply restore the current backup file.

Also don't forget the IRS and State auditors do not want to look at a computer screen when performing an audit, they want a paper trail and that can make a difference between a quick one day audit or one that drags on for weeks. So those payroll reports that you've been printing and filing away each pay day will give you the information you need when you want to look up an old pay date.
