Small problem with 940 FUTA 2008 report ...

Our quarter amounts (lines 16a, b, c & d) are $683.23, $154.95, $1.82 and $0.00 respectively. When I total these amounts on my calculator, I get $840.00.

On page 1 of our 940 FUTA 2008 report lines #8 and #12 (entered by PayWindow) both read $840.00. However, on page 2 of the report, PayWindow has entered $839.00 as the Total tax liability for the year (lines 16a + 16b + 16c + 16d).

I don't understand why the total on page 2 is a dollar less than the total of the amounts entered on the detail lines.

What am I missing?

Thank-you in advance for helping. Rita

Can you make a backup of your database so we can see what is going on? See the instructions here and mentions this message thread in your email:

This was really a weird one. When the developer tested, it was fine, but on two of my computers it showed the same results you got. A dollar rounding error.

What it was is on the 940 Form, the IRS created two entry fields for each line entry, one for the dollar amount and one for the cents. When your number was multiplied the result was "839.9999999999" for the dollar amount and grabbing the info before the decimal point gave us 839 and not the 940 that it should have been.

We added code in the new build that was just posted to see this problem and get the correct number. Use your Update checker and download the current program download.
