View Full Version : Error (code 5) during update

I just received my 2009 disk to update my 2008 PayWindow. When I update the program online I get the following error message
"
C:\Program Files\PayWindow Payroll\paywin.exe While trying to delete existing file an error occurred. delete file failed; code 5. Access denied"

PayWindow was running when you tried to install and when it went to replace itself, that error popped up.

When you run the setup, make sure PayWindow is not running and you will have no problems.

Tried it again, PayWindow is closed, same problem.

If that's the case, it sounds like one of two things. First, Windows may have one of the files locked. Or somehow you may have set some files to be read only.

Try uninstalling PayWindow to see if Windows chokes and tells you it cannot remove a file. If you get past an uninstall, then install from the download page on our website.

Let me know what happens.

Won't uninstall paywin.exe. Tried to reboot, would not shut down because paywin.exe was running. Forced a reboot, immedately deleted paywin.exe. Downloaded program from website, works great now.

That's just what I thought it was, you had PayWindow running, most likely minimized and Windows had the running application "locked".

Glad it's OK now.
