THanks for pointing out where to place the SDI and SUTA. I think i have that entered correctly. What I do not understand is where to put the California STATE UNEMPLOYMENT contribution rate, aka UI , aka SUI.
THanks again! Also is it correct that I only need to edit the company tab and not the state tax tab because this is done with the tax updates?

I believe it is also called the Training Tax? That is in the bottom of the SDI entry as you see from the screen shot at the bottom of that page. I thing we have 1% in that entry as I recall.
But you can use the Company override for all three items.

Thanks for the response. I am looking at a form DE 2088 Rev. 50. I got from the EDD dept. in CA. It shows me All of the following. ( can I fax this sheet?)
1. Unemployment Insurance contribution rate 5.9% This is what i need to know where to place in pay window
2. Employment training tax ETT this is perhaps confusing you. 0.1%
3. State Disability tax SDI , what you have previously referred to. 0.8%
The UI changed drastically this year to 5.9% so this is an important one.
I need to know where or even if I need to place this figure in pay window!
Thanks!

The UI is actually the SUTA and the top entry in the Company Override.
SDI is number two on that page and the ETT number 3.

thanks for the above information. Those dang acronyms!
OK I have two more months of support for quickbooks before I totally convert to paywindow. I am going to check the totals for each paycheck for a few weeks to see how they match so I can be sure to do this right. the first paycheck was for 72 hours at 8.25 per hour. There is a difference between Quickbooks and Paywindow. Quickbooks has the calculation after taxes as 534.8$ and Paywindow has it as 539.73 $
I am concerned about the difference. I have been using Quickbooks for over a decade and it has never been wrong. Please help !
Many thanks!

We use the exact calculation method and if you take your Circular E using the exact calculation formula and your California tax formula it should come out to the penny with what PayWindow shows. If you've set the pay period, marital status, exemptions and in California the DE-4 exemptions correctly, it should be perfect.

Hi I am looking for the descrepencies between zpay and quickbooks. Where do I enter the number of deductions for the employee? ( children)
Also is the SDI employer and employee rates supposed to be the same?

The number of exemptions (Dependants) is entered in the Employee settings under the "Pay" tab. Also use the CA-DE4 entry as well.
The SDI in CA is not the same as if you use the Company override, the top entry is the Employee SDI rate which we default as .8% and the second entry is the Training Tax which is .1%.
And you do not want to compare against another software as they may be wrong, you want to actually work it out with a calculator using the California 2008 tax book to be positive of the amount.

Use the link at the bottom of this FAQ:
http://zpay.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=716
That is a page of all of the reports listed.
Pay particular attention to the two reports that we tell you to print each pay day (bold text in the descriptions to show the importance) to file away for any possible future audits. On being the Employer Totals Report which shows you your liabilities by Pay Period, MTD, QTD and YTD.
