Can you tell me the steps that lead up to that error and send us a screen shot of the error? I searched Google for the string "error message multiple step olb db operation" and only see VB errors with that message and we do not use MS VB at all so not sure what is causing the error.

I started with the loop problem after doing the update, so I reinstalled the update like your answer to another post of the same problem. I installed the tax tables this time but now get this message I uploaded a snapshot of the page.

I don't see the screen shot, can you attach it to an email to support@zpay.com for us?

Also I need the step by stem process as to what triggers the error message. You know, "I opened the program, I click on the Next button under the calendar, I then... and that's when the error pops up."

I got the screen shot. It's an OLE DB error message, which was the cause for the lack of clarity on the search for errors looking for OLB DB. This looks like a database corruption problem. I just emailed you specific instructions to delete an ini file and have you reinstall PayWindow to force it to open our example company file. I'll be looking for your reply as to if the sample company file opens OK or not.

First I had 2 of the files on my computer one labeled paywin1.ini and paywin2.ini. I did delete the one paywin1.ini and reinstalled I got the dummy company and the same error message when I tried to open it. I did not see any of my other companies on there did I now loose them all. This is becoming very stressful especially with the end of quarter so near. Thank you for your quick response to this problem.

I did send you a zip file of the data base I hope I sent the right thing. When I look at the program files I did find all my companies there entering throught the c drive listing. I can get help figuring that issue out after this one is solved.

I did not send you the right one before I am sure now that I sent the right files. I just replied to the email you sent earlier, I hope this helps find the problem. Thanks for your service in this matter

Since you are getting the error with the example database and I was able to open all of your databases here that you sent, let's have you run the Debug version of PayWindow and see if you can get us a bug report. Go to this link:

I open the debug program and it opens with no problems, and works just like my original version with all hte payrolls right where they should be I do not get any error reports. Am I doing this right? When I try to run the regular version I get the same error message. Thanks for updating my databases but how do I get the zipped files back do I just transfer them to where I got the first ones? What should I do now?

You can just unZip the files to the same folder that you got them from.

Use the Debug version for now, I'll see if we can setup a netmeeting with one of our developers and you to see what the problem is when using the regular version.

I have a couple of questions.
First since we can not get my paywindows error to go away or even discover why it is ther, I was wondering if I go to my root of paywindows, zip and save my data bases and my report folders with all my 941's to my desk top and then uninstall and reinstall paywindows will I loose any information? I assume I could just put the data bases and repost folders back into the paywindlws folder and they would restore. I am using the debug version for now but would like to get this resolved once and for all.

Next I must change the check design for payroll checks, I am trying to find where the file is so I can save it and not have to redesign the checks each time I have to update the program. I looked in my c directory under program files zpay. I find many files including all my companies and reports and the exe files but not the checkk design file.

Last when you input time of hours worked, if you have 60 and a half hours would you enter that as 60.30 or 60.50. I have an employee inform me that she was shorted when I had 68.30 of reg and 11.30 of vacation, it did not pay her for 80 hours. most of the employess use a time clock and I just put the exact hours from there time cards but we have one area that manually writes out the time and I get things like 8.75 and 10.50. These are the ones I have the question about. Thank you

When you install PayWindow over an existing installation it replaces any existing files. And thus starts off with an all new program. The only thing that is not touched is your data files.

This FAQ has the answer to that question:

Hours are entered as tenths. This is what the hours calculator will do for you. Click the button [...] next to the hour entry and if you enter 60 hours and 30 minutes, it will convert it to tenths for you.

I just installed the latest update of paywindows and I still can not use the regular program. I have the same OLE DB error. I am still using the debug program which is workomg fine, but do you have any idea what is causing this error, or why the debug program is working and not finding anything. Just thought with some time you might have come up with a new idea. Thanks for your help

Since you are the only person with over 5,000 users, we have not been able to find out what is causing the problem. If we had several users with the problem, we could compare the computers and software installed to try and see what it is caused by.

The only difference between the normal version and the debug version is added code to trap any errors. And it slows it down the operation a bit which may be why the debug version works for you.

Just keep using the debug version since it works and when you upgrade to a new computer, I'm sure the problem will go away.

Paul -

After being told that the debug mode worked and only differed by some trace code, I took the opportunity on a recent trip home to look at some of the ways my Mother's computer could have been running differently from the typical XP environment. Eventually I stumbled on a forum post where a developer talked about the same issue when they ran an application on XP but set as 2000 under the "Compatability" tab. I checked and noted my Mother was running the program under Windows 95 compatability. Turned this off and the application ran fine.

I appreciate all the help you've been in trying to track down this problem. Thank you.

Keith

Thanks for the follow-up Keith. I wonder how she ever set that herself? I'm just happy we can close this one as she's had the problem for quite some time now. If it ever pops up again, at least we know where to start looking now.
